Woman, child injured after mom becomes trapped under vehicle

A Portsmouth woman and her child were hurt after the mother got trapped under her car Saturday afternoon.

Emergency crews were called to the home on Prudence View Drive just after 4:30 p.m.
Deputy Fire Chief Michael O’Brien says that when crews arrived on seen they found the 39-year-old mother pinned under the vehicle. Firefighters quickly deployed high pressure lifting bags to rescue her.

O’Brien says she was conscious and alert, able to report injuries to the responders. 

The woman told responders the car began to roll as she attempted to remove her child from the vehicle. They both were struck and the mother became trapped. 

Both mother and child were taken to Newport Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
