Woman sentenced for 2017 DUI crash

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) – A South Kingstown woman has been sentenced on DUI charges stemming from a 2017 car crash that killed a 75-year-old woman.

Leslie Morales, 30, was sentenced to 10 years in prison with 7 years to serve at the ACI in Cranston. The remaining time will be suspended with probation.

According to Prosecutors, Morales caused a crash on August 7, 2017, while driving under the influence of alcohol on Old Tower Hill Road in South Kingstown.

Morales struck 75-year-oldMary Kemp while attempting to turn onto Narragansett Avenue. Kemp was later pronounced dead at South County Hospital.

Morales was also ordered to pay a $5,000 fine and will have her license suspended for no less than five years upon her release.

The State said Morales must also attend alcohol counseling and complete 50 hours of community service.
