Woman sentenced up to 15 years in prison for Attleboro stabbing

ATTLEBORO, Mass. (WLNE) — The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office said Thursday that a Weymouth woman faces up to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter in a fatal stabbing in Attleboro.

A spokesman for the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office said that 22-year-old Kayla Cantu was sentenced to serve 10 to 15 years in prison followed by three years of probation.

Cantu admitted to stabbing 28-year-old Kimberly Duphily outside of her apartment on Leroy Street back in September of 2020. The incident stemmed from a fight over stolen money and drugs, involving the two women as well as Duphily’s husband Jacob.

Court documents said that Cantu slashed Kimberly Duphily in the back and stabbed her in the neck. She was then take to Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro where she was pronounced dead.

Cantu’s original charge of second-degree murder was reduced to manslaughter because of her guilty plea.
