BOSTON (WLNE) — A Massachusetts woman was critically injured after being struck by lightning over the weekend, WCVB reports.

First responders were called to Savin Hill Beach in Dorchester around 3:35 p.m. on Saturday after a woman was stuck by lightning.

State police said the woman, 31, of Dorchester, was walking her dog on the boardwalk. She stopped to speak with another walker, a 49-year-old woman, when a lightning bolt struck the area and sent them both into the air.

The 31-year-old woman was thrown onto the beach. Witnesses began CPR before troopers and Boston EMS arrived on scene.

The woman was unresponsive and was taken to Boston Medical Center where she remained in critical condition.

Her dog, Bruce, initially ran off. Police said he was found on Sunday.

Police said the 49-year-old woman was thrown in a different direction from the blast. It is not believed that she was also struck by the actual lightning.
