Woman suffering from serious injuries after crash in Charlestown

CHARLESTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) – The Charlestown Police Department responded to a serious accident at the intersection of Old Post Road and Narrow Lane on Monday.

According to Charlestown police, the crash happened at 3:15 in the afternoon. When officers arrived on scene, they found two trucks on fire after crashing into a telephone pole.

A 25-year-old woman was found unconscious with serious injuries.  She was transported to Rhode Island Hospital and is in stable condition as of Tuesday morning.

The driver of the second vehicle, a 55-year old man, was uninjured and remained on scene.

According to Lieutenant Phillip Gingerella, a preliminary investigation shows that the 25-year-old woman pulled out in front of the second car, and was hit on her left side.

The accident is under investigation by the Charlestown Police Department’s Accident Reconstruction Team, and the Rhode Island State Police Commercial Enforcement Unit.
