Woman’s belated birthday wish comes true at Foxwoods Resort Casino

FALL RIVER, M.A. (WLNE) – A sweet update! A birthday parade held back in March for Mikayla Deponte, a woman with down syndrome, received a good deal of attention.

Turning 21, Mikayla’s birthday wish was to celebrate at Foxwoods Resort Casino, but the coronavirus pandemic put a damper on those plans.

After Mikayla’s birthday parade aired on ABC6 News, Foxwoods reached out to Mikayla and her family. The casino offered Mikayla a complimentary “belated” birthday celebration once the coronavirus restrictions eased.

With much excitement, Mikayla asked daily when she would be able to go to Foxwoods to celebrate.

Once Foxwoods was given the all clear to reopen, the casino reached out the Mikaya’s family to see if they would be interested in going. Just last weekend, Mikayla and her family made to the trek to Foxwoods to celebrate turning 21.

Mikayla’s mom, Victoria Deponte, said, the casino did everything but roll out the red carpet for them upon their arrival. With several COVID-19 safety measures in place, along with helpful and personable staff, Mikayla’s birthday wish and plans finally came true.

Victoria added that Mikayla’s birthday parade had millions of views and her story has been shared around the world.
