Woonsocket man arrested following shots fired incident in Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Woonsocket man was arrested after trying to hide a gun from Providence police Wednesday night.

According to a police report obtained by ABC 6 News, officers responded for an anonymous call for shots fired shortly after 9 p.m. on March Street.

Police approached a silver Toyota with rear bumper damage on March Street.

Officers said the driver, Caleb Medeiros, seemed to be hiding something in a satchel on the right side of his body.

Police said one of the people in the back slumped to her left and pretended to sleep while police were speaking to them.

All four people were asked to get out of the car and were all patted down.

Police felt a heavy object on Medeiros, placed him into handcuffs, and took off the satchel.

Officers found a 9mm Diamondback Firearm model DB9 with four 9mm rounds.

Medeiros was then taken to Central Station.

No further information on the incident was immediately released.
