Woonsocket Police Investigate Shooting

On June 26th at 9:30pm, Officers of the Woonsocket Police Department were dispatched to the area of Memorial Drive for a report of a shooting. 

Upon arrival officers located a twenty five year old male who was the victim of multiple gun shot wounds. The victim was transported to Rhode Island Hospital and as of this time is listed in serious condition.

Detectives from the Woonsocket Police Department were quick to identify the shooter as a Biliberto Rivera 3/25/80 of Woonsocket.  As a result of the investigation and arrest warrant was obtained for assault with intent to commit a felony.  Through their investigation Woonsocket Detectives learned that Rivera was stopped on Route 90 in Albany New York early Sunday morning by the New York State Police. 

As a result of the stop Rivera was charged by New York State Police for possession of a handgun.  At this time Rivera is being held by New York authorities as a fugitive from justice from Rhode Island. 

The Woonsocket Police Department would like to commend the fine work Of Detective Sergeant's, William Coupe, Marc Cardin, and Detective William Senior.  The department would also like to recognize Housing Authority security head Robert Moreau for his assistance in the investigation.
