22-year-old held without bail after allegedly shooting and killing his own father in Woonsocket

Police have identified the victim as 43-year-old Adam Castonguay.

WOONSOCKET, R.I (WLNE) – On Friday, a judge formally read 22-year-old Alex Cote the three felony charges he is now facing after allegedy shooting and killing his own father early Thursday morning in Woonsocket.

Cote is being charged with Domestic Homicide, Discharging a firearm during a crime of violence, and Possession of a firearm without a permit.

The judge has ordered Cote to be held without bail.

Woonsocket Police says they were called to the area of 41 Village Road for a disturbance call around 1:15 A.M. on Thursday. Inside they found 43-year-old Adam Castonguay shot dead.

The suspect was later identified by police as the victim’s own son, Alex Coate. Cote fled the scene by foot but was later arrested by police in Pawtucket.

Officials say Cote was taken into custody without incident, after being spotted in the passenger seat of a car.

Cote is set to appear in court again on April 23.

This is the first homicide of 2021 in Woonsocket.

The investigation remains ongoing to figure out what led up to the shooting. This is a developing story, check back for more details.
