Worcester man arrested with stolen gun in North Smithfield

NORTH SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WLNE)- North Smithfield police arrested a 22-year-old Worcester man early Saturday morning.

While patrolling the businesses in the area of Sayles Hill Road and Route 146, a North Smithfield officer observed a lone vehicle in an empty parking lot.

The officer approached the car to speak to the occupants, when the front passenger shifted in his seat and gripped a black firearm in his waistband.

The occupants were held at gunpoint until police backup arrived on scene.  The passenger was taken into custody and the weapon was seized.

North Smithfield police identified the armed passenger as 22-year-old Argelis Delacruz.

According to police, Delacruz had been carrying a Glock 9mm, which was later found to be stolen out of Allentown, Pennsylvania.

In addition to the firearm, police seized $12,542 from the suspect.

Delacruz appeared before a Justice of Peace before he was released on $10,000 surety bail and will appear in court at a later date.
