Work Begins on Fall River Pool

Work began Monday in Fall River, Massachusetts on renovations to the Vietnam Veterans' Memorial Pool in Lafayette Park where a local woman was found dead in the pool last June.

Worker's are preparing to remove the slide from the pool and the depth of the pool will be reduced from 12 feet to 5 and-a-half feet.

The pool was closed for the season back on June 29th, 2011. The day before, the body of 36-year-old Marie Joseph was found by trespassers floating on the surface. An investigation determined Joseph drowned on June 26th. According to investigators, her body lay unseen on the floor of the pool, hidden by 12 feet of cloudy water.

According to the state Department of Conservation and Recreation, the renovations are expected to make the pool safer, cleaner and more available to the handicapped.
