A fire broke out in a West Warwick junkyard Friday afternoon.

Officials say a vehicle in the Ruggieri and Sons Auto Parts yard on Green Hill Street caught fire when a worker in the yard was draining fluids from the vehicle. Something went wrong and a fire was started. The worker escaped from the blaze unharmed.

As a result of the fire, Providence St. in West Warwick was closed in both directions as crews worked to contain the flames.

By 1:45 p.m. the fire was extinguished.
