TIVERTON, R.I. (WLNE) — A Providence man was killed in an industrial accident in Tiverton Friday.

The incident happened just after 8:30 a.m. at Tiverton Materials on Fish Road.

Capt. Michael Miguel said company supplies construction aggregate materials.

Miguel said when they arrived, they found Selvin Martin Ovando Gamez laying on the ground and unresponsive.

Firefighters “performed lifesaving measures” when they arrived at the scene, said the captain.

Gamez, who’s 29 years old, was taken to Saint Anne’s Hospital in Fall River where he died.

An investigation revealed that the 29-year-old was on top of a piece of machinery, which separates sand from gravel, when it became backed up, said police.

“He then reportedly fell into the machine while attempting to loosen the material in the machine,” said Miguel. “Gamez was pulled from the machine by nearby workers.”

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration and Mine Safety and Health Administration were notified of the fatal incident.
