Wyatt Detention Facility releases a statement regarding the death of a detainee

CENTRAL FALLS, R.I (WLNE) – U.S marshals’ detainee Gilbert Delestre, who had been held at the Wyatt Detention facility since July 2, 2019, passed away in Rhode Island Hospital on August 25th, 2:20 AM. 

Correctional officers medical staff closely monitored Mr. Delestre since he entered Wyatt.

Delestre had previously been diagnosed and treated for chronic health conditions. 

On Thursday, August 22nd, Delestre was transported to Rhode Island Hospital and admitted to the ICU, where he passed away due to his health-related issues. 

Warden Daniel Martin has personally reviewed all aspects of Delestre’s access to medical care and determined that all the facility’s protocols were followed. 

The U.S marshals were notified, and have notified the next of kin.

An autopsy is being conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
