After a long and distinguished career in law enforcement, Steven O’Donnell will now be joining the YMCA of Greater Providence as its CEO.

Colonel O’Donell was selected from a long list of candidates during a nationwide search.

The organization said O’Donnell brings integrity, strong leadership, and an unparalleled understanding of all communities in Rhode Island.

O’Donnell said it was something much more personal that drew him to the job. He plans on hitting the ground running, and already has lots of ideas.

“It was really a no-brainer for me. It’s some unfinished business. I feel that I want to make sure I stay in some type of imprint in the community. I grew up in Providence. I knew what the YMCA meant to kids,” O’Donell said.

The colonel is currently looking into new initiatives to raise memberships and get more families involved.
