Young man struck and killed on Washington bridge

A young man has died after an early morning accident on the Washington bridge.

State Police tell us that a young male, approximately 22 years old, was the pedestrian struck by a car and killed on the Washington bridge in East Providence just before 4:00 am Sunday.

Witnesses say they saw the victim, in dark clothes, walking along the left lane of Rte. 195 eastbound, right before the Taunton Avenue exit. The driver of the vehicle was unable to avoid him; he was hit and pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation, and the driver of the vehicle is shaken up but refused treatment.

Neither of the identities have been released at this time.
