$1.2B Powerball drawing Wednesday night

Powerball Drawing

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A $1.2 billion Powerball jackpot is on the line Wednesday night, the fourth largest in the history of the game after no one matched all five numbers and the Powerball number in Monday night’s $1.04 billion drawing.

Wednesday’s drawing is just the fourth time Powerball has surpassed the billion-dollar mark in the history of the game. Once someone hits the jackpot, it will be a historic one, as it will be the first time in Powerball history that back-to-back jackpots have been over one billion dollars after the last grand prize winner won $1.08 billion in July.

The odds of winning the jackpot are slim, just one in 292.2 million. But that doesn’t stop people from buying their $2 tickets and imagining what they’d do with the money if they won.

“The thing I would like to do is help people, help my family, and leave a legacy behind. That would be nice,” said Aldren Diaz, a Providence resident buying Powerball tickets Wednesday morning.

“I can help my family. go back to my country and help a lot of people to make situations for children who need help. [There are] a lot of things to do with that money because it’s a lot of money,” added Ramona Perez.

Wednesday’s drawing is set for 10:59 p.m. Check back with ABC 6 News afterward to see the winning numbers.
