BOSTON, Mass. (WLNE) — The Healey-Driscoll administration announced Friday that Massachusetts has secured $1 billion in federal funding for the replacement of the Sagamore and Bourne Bridges.

The funding comes from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s Bridge Investment Program, and is in addition to $700 million in state funding also pledged for the project.

“This is a game-changing award for Massachusetts. We’ve never been closer to rebuilding the Cape Cod Bridges than we are right now. This funding will be critical for getting shovels in the ground,” said Governor Maura Healey.

The project will lower long-term maintenance costs and will create full accessibility for cyclists, pedestrians and people with mobility devices, according to the Healey-Driscoll administration.
