1 dead, 6 injured after 2 separate crashes on Route 140 in Freetown

FREETOWN, Mass. (WLNE) — The Lakeville Fire Department said one person was killed and multiple were injured after two separate crashes on Route 140 in Freetown on Nov. 21.

Around 5:30 p.m., a parked tow truck was hit by a passing car on an overpass on Route 140.

Officials said the tow truck was knocked off the overpass and crashed down onto Washburn Road, where it burst into flames.

Massachusetts State Police said the driver of the tow truck died in the crash.

Police said the other driver wasn’t hurt.

While a portion of Route 140 was shut down for the crash, another serious crash happened just up the highway.

The Lakeville Fire Department said around 8:15 p.m., three cars collided after drivers failed to stop for traffic backed up from the first crash.

Six people had to go to the hospital, and two of the victims suffered serious injuries.

Officials said there was also a collision involving a tractor trailer and a car during this time, but both drivers were not hurt.

The cause of the initial crash is under investigation.
