1 killed, 1 seriously injured in Manchester-By-The-Sea crash

MANCHESTER-BY-THE-SEA, Mass. (WLNE) — Massachusetts State Police said one person was killed and another was flown to a Boston hospital after a single-car crash in Manchester-By-The-Sea.

Police said at 7:19 a.m., on Tuesday, state troopers responded to a crash on Route 128 north at mile marker 51.

One person in the car, a 19-year-old man, was pronounced dead on the scene.

The suspected driver, a 26-year-old man from Florida, suffered serious, life-threatening injuries. He was taken to a Boston hospital by medical helicopter, authorities said.

The Florida man has no legal address but is believed to be from Lynn, police said.

Neither of their names were immediately released.

State police said they closed both sides of the highway to allow the medical helicopter space to land.

The crash is under investigation. Officials said speed was a factor.
