11 displaced following house fire in Providence
The Red Cross is assisting those residents.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)- Eleven Providence residents are out of their home Monday night, after what officials believe was an electrical fire broke out on the second story of the building.
Officials from the Providence Fire Department say crews responded to Mawney Street, on the west side of the city, around 12:30 p.m. Monday afternoon.
Battalion Chief Craig Grantham with Providence Fire Department says crews found a fire in the bathroom on the second story, that then traveled to the attic.
Because of working smoke detectors all residents were able to safely get out of their home.
Grantham says in order to get the heavy smoke out of the attic, crews had to make a hole in the roof. Officials say all three floors have water damage. After about 30 minutes, the fire was knocked out.
The Red Cross is assisting the individuals at this time until they can return to their home.
Jocelyn Hillard, a spokesperson with The Red Cross, says it typically sees an uptick in fires during the winter months because more people are spending time inside their home.
Hillard adds this is a good reminder to make sure all smoke detectors are working, your family has a fire escape plan, and all heat sources (like a space heater) are properly plugged in and are monitored whenever on.
This is a developing story, check back for details.
