NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WLNE)—  Twenty two tractor trailer trucks left the Ocean State Job Lot distribution center in North Kingstown Wednesday morning. Each one is carrying pallets of food that will be delivered throughout the Northeast to aid in food insecurity.

11 million meals will be split up among 16 food banks and pantries. It’s all part of the companies annual ‘Three Square Meals’ program, which is now in its 14th year of providing food to local organizations.

West Warwick based ‘Be the Change Sunday Meal’ is one of the many groups benefiting.

“We work with the people every day and when we can bring in new items it’s just, the looks on their faces when they get to pick cereal, stuff that they ordinarily can’t afford… it’s just a great feeling,” said Mindy Christina who works for the non-profit.

The Ocean State Job Lot Charitable Foundation used this mornings kick off event as an opportunity to introduce their new ‘Mobile Canteen.’ When it’s up and running the vehicle will essentially be a food pantry on wheels helping to feed military members struggling to put food on the table.
