11 people displaced, one seriously injured in fire at multi-family New Bedford home

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — 11 people are without a home and one person is in the hospital following a fire in New Bedford.

According to the New Bedford Fire Department, crews responded to a fire on the second floor of a triple decker on Elm Street just after 8:30 last night.

When firefighters arrived, crews found residents needing rescue on the top floors.

The third floor tenant was rescued through the stairwell, but was sent to hospital where they’re being treated for serious injuries.

The Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents.

Officials are investigating what caused the fire.
