#12 PC Men’s Soccer Drops Season Opener At #4 North Carolina

ELON, N.C. – Brendan Constantine (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Joao Serrano (Evora, Portugal) both notched goals, but the No. 12 Providence College men’s soccer team fell to No. 4 North Carolina, 4-2, on Friday night at Rudd Field.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
– John Nelson scored the first goal for UNC on a scramble following a corner kick in the 15th minute. He corralled the ball in the left side of the box and was able to beat Seguljic with a shot just inside the far post.

– Cam Lindley scored the Tar Heels’ second goal in the 33rd minute. Jeremy Kelly flicked the ball on to Lindley streaking through the center of the field.

– The Friars responded with Constantine’s goal in the 36th minute. Alex Vigliotti (Branford, Conn.) played the ball towards goal from the right end line. North Carolina’s goalkeeper bobbled it and Constantine tapped home the rebound.

– Constantine’s goal is the third of his career. Vigliotti’s assist also marks the third of his career.

– Six minutes later, the Friars scored again. Serrano took a free kick from the left side at the top of the box which he bent around the wall and Pyle’s outstretched hands.

– Jelani Pieters scored the eventual game-winner in the 63rd minute. Zach Wright crossed the ball in from the right wing and Pieters flicked a header over Seguljic.

– In the 86th minute, David October converted on a penalty kick that was awarded after a tripping call in the box.

– Six different Tar Heels recorded points in the victory.

– North Carolina’s first three goals came from players who scored their first collegiate goals.

– Ben Seguljic (Rye Brook, N.Y.) recorded two saves in his 25th game in goal for the Friars.
