13 injured after serious multi-vehicle crash on I-195 West

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Rhode Island State Police said 13 people were injured after a serious crash on Interstate 195 West Tuesday morning.

Around 8:53 a.m., first responders responded to the multi-vehicle crash on I-195 West near the Rhode Island-Massachusetts state line.

According to RISP, a tractor-trailer collided with about 12 vehicles on the highway after it failed to stop for traffic.

Police said 12 people, including the driver of the tractor-trailer, had minor injuries, and one woman had serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

The trailer-truck driver, 64-year-old Jon P. Main, of Cranston, was charged with driving to endanger, resulting in physical injury.

Main will be arraigned after he is discharged from the hospital.

While crews responded to the accident, all lanes on I-195 West near the crash were closed, according to RISP.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation also said that I-195 West was closed at Exit 1 in Seekonk due to the crash, and that all traffic was diverted onto Route 114A at Exit 1.

All lanes are now clear.
