13 tankers called to battle scrap yard fire in Westport

WESTPORT, Mass. (WLNE) — Crews across multiple departments responded to a fire at a scrap yard in Westport on Tuesday.
The Westport Fire Department said crews responded to Excel Recycling on Charlotte White Road for a “deep-seated fire” involving a “very large pile of recyclables materials.”
13 tankers were called to assist with the fire due to there being no fire hydrants in the area.
Firefighters used tens of thousands of gallons of water to extinguish the fire, according to the department.
Nobody was injured.
Tankers and crews from Rehoboth, Rochester, Dartmouth, Tiverton, Little Compton, Freetown, Berkley, Middletown, Raynham, Acushnet, Middleborough, and Lakeville responded to the scene.
Additionally, the Westport Police Department assisted with the use of a drone, which the fire department said was “unbelievably effective in aiding our fireground operations.”
“Despite our limited staffing, our members did an excellent job of setting up the scene and formulating a plan, and once enough water was on scene, the plan proved to be effective. Strong work by all involved,” the Westport Fire Department said.
