KINGSTON, R.I. (WLNE) – Police at the University of Rhode Island say swastikas and lewd images have been carved into cars after more than a dozen cars were vandalized in the past two weeks.

Police say the vandals targeted the Kingston campus during the nighttime hours, starting April 4. They don’t believe the victims were specifically targeted, but if they were, the vandals may face hate crime charges.

All but one of the cars belonged to students. The timing couldn’t be worse, as they’re preparing for finals over the next few weeks. Students say they were alerted to the crime spree by an email.

Officers have been reviewing surveillance video but haven’t identified any suspects.

Police will continue to patrol the campus. Anyone with information is asked to call police.
