16-year-old shot, killed in Cranston apartment complex

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — A 16-year-old was shot and killed inside the Pocasset Village apartment complex early Monday morning, Cranston police said.

Police said the victim is a Hispanic male from Providence, but did not release his name as officers continue to work to notify his family.

Col. Michael Winquist said police were called to the apartment complex on Dyer Avenue around 9:40 a.m. Monday for a report of a person lying on the ground in the parking lot.

Police believe the shooting actually occurred around 3:30 a.m., Winquist said.

Police discovered several shell casings in the parking lot and marked them as evidence.

Winquist said Cranston police are working with other agencies to identify the suspects, who fled in a vehicle.

No arrests have been made as of Monday afternoon.
