17-year-old facing gun charge after traffic stop in New Bedford
NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — The New Bedford Police Department said they arrested a teen for possession of a handgun over the weekend.
According to police, on Friday, August 11, gang detectives were doing surveillance in the city’s south end when they pulled over a car on Dartmouth Street in the area of Rockdale Avenue.
During the stop, officials said a juvenile in the car attempted to flee the scene. The boy, 17, was caught by police and they said they discovered he had a gun.
Authorities said the boy had a 9mm handgun with 10 rounds of ammunitions in it. The boy and the driver of the car, identified as Gerron Harper, 29, of Worcester, were both arrested.
Harper was charged with driving with a suspended license and the juvenile was charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license,
