18 people displaced by Central Falls multi-family home fire
CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. (WLNE) — An early morning Wednesday fire has left 18 people displaced, according to the Central Falls Fire Department.
According to Chief Scott Nello, the Mary Street multi-family home fire was first called in at approximately 2:30 a.m.
The first crews to arrive said that heavy fire was coming up from the basement, eventually reaching the third floor.
The majority of residents were able to exit the building on their own, and crews assisted the remaining residents.
16 adults, two young children and a dog were able to escape the fire safely and there were no injuries in the incident.
The fire took an hour and a half to get under control with mutual aid assistance from Providence, Pawtucket, Lincoln, East Providence and Cumberland fire crews.
The house is a total loss, and the fire marshal is investigating the scene.
The American Red Cross is helping the displaced tenants at this time.
