18-year-old charged after deadly drunk-driving accident

A Grand Jury has indicted the driver accused of being drunk when he crashed his car, killing a high school senior and injuring two other passengers.

State Police say 18-year-old Scott Gavitt, of Exeter, was drunk when he lost control of his car on Route 1 in Exeter back in February.

Chariho High School senior Heidi Malstrom died and two other passengers were injured.

Gavitt is being charged with one count of driving under the influence death resulting, one count of driving to endanger death resulting, two counts of driving under the influence resulting in serious bodily injury, and two counts of driving to endanger resulting in serious bodily injury.

Police say no one in the car was wearing a seatbelt.
