18-year-old facing gun, drug charges after arrest in New Bedford

NEW BEDFORD, M.A. (WLNE) – New Bedford police detectives arrested a man allegedly found in possession of drugs, money and an illegal gun earlier this week.
Police said Jordan James, 18, of New Bedford, was taken into custody on Tuesday, January 2, at 6:30 p.m.
Authorities said a detective was conducting surveillance after complaints of drug activity in the area of Hathaway Street near Ashley Boulevard when they observed a drug deal taking place.
A vehicle operated by the suspected dealer was stopped in the city’s north end, and James was identified as the suspect.
Officers found 27 bags of marijuana weighing approximately 523 grams, along with 86 grams of psychedelic mushrooms and eight cannabis vapes after further investigation.
Police said scales and packaging materials used in the sale of illegal drugs were also found. $1,873 in cash was seized as alleged proceeds from previous drug sales.
Detectives also found an illegal handgun loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition in a 13-round magazine.
Officials said James was charged with possession of a high-capacity firearm and ammunition without a license, as well as possession of controlled substances with intent to distribute.
