19-year-old facing gun charges after shots fired incident in New Bedford

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — A 19-year-old from New Bedford is facing gun charges after police responded to a shots fired incident Sunday night.

According to police, Jalen Kikko Carreiro Baganha, 19, is charged with trespassing with a motor vehicle, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling and carrying a loaded firearm with the serial numbers defaced.

Officials said that police responded to a call for shots fired in the area of the Rural Cemetery Sunday night around 9 p.m. When they arrived, they said they found Baganha inside a vehicle parked with its lights off.

During a subsequent search, police located a Smith and Wesson handgun loaded with nine rounds, as well as two knives.

Baganha is expected to appear in court at a later date.
