‘We can do so much better in Fall River’: Boy, 14, among victims in deadly shooting

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE)- Two people were killed in a double homicide near a Fall River park on Tuesday, including a 14-year-old.

The two victims were identified by the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office on Wednesday as 14-year-old Miguel Sanjurjo of Fall River and 29-year-old Jovaughn Antonio Mills of Fall River.

A third man, a 19-year-old who has not been identified yet, was shot in the leg and brought himself to the hospital. The DA’s office says according to physicians, he is expected to recover.

Fall River police responded to Griffin Park after multiple reports of shots fired just before 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

When first responders got to the scene they found the two victims suffering from gunshot wounds. They were rushed to Saint Anne’s Hospital and Charlton Memorial Hospital where they were later pronounced dead.

The third victim drove himself to Saint Anne’s Hospital. He was later transported to Rhode Island Hospital for additional treatment.

Fall River Police Chief Jeffrey Cardoza said officers will be going door-to-door and checking surveillance to further investigate.

“We can do so much better in Fall River,” Mayor Paul Coogan told media on scene.

The District Attorney’s Office said the investigation is ongoing and extremely active. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Fall River Police Department immediatley.
