2 die in Burrillville crash

BURRILLVILLE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Burrillville Police Department said that two people died as a result of a motor vehicle accident that occurred Friday afternoon.

Col. Stephan Lynch said the crash occurred around 3:30 p.m. on Lapham Farm Road.

Lynch said that a sedan drove off the road and struck a tree.

The driver, 19-year-old Andrew Long of Chepachet, was pronounced dead at the scene, and his passenger, 18-year-old Ariel Welch of Mapleville, was transported to the hospital where she was later also pronounced dead.

Lynch added that the department believes that speed was a factor in the crash, although it is still under investigation.
