2 injured in Woonsocket crash, police investigating
WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — Two people were injured last night after a crash on Blakeley Street in Woonsocket.
According to police, a woman was speeding when she went through the intersection of Grove Street and Blakeley, hit a tree, and several bushes.
Police said she went over a retaining wall, destroying two pylons and came to a rest in the parking lot.
Officials said when they arrived on scene, the woman passed out while talking to officers.
When she woke up, she told police that she had blacked out while driving and woke up where they found her.
Officers said they could not detect an odor of alcohol given the overwhelming smell of air bag dust.
The woman was transported to Rhode Island Hospital for head pain.
Witnesses told officers that they had also seen a male driving who had fled the scene.
Police said they observed security video of the crash from another witness who lives nearby, and confirmed that a male had left the scene.
Officers later located him walking in the area, and he had injuries consistent with being involved in the crash.
He was transported to the station for questioning, where it was determined that the woman was the operator.
She was given citations for the crash.
According to police, a detective who responded to the scene is investigating the male who left the scene of the crash today.
