2 men arrested in East Providence after a bar fight

The East Providence Police Department responds to a bar fight that left one man injured.

Police received a call at 1:13 am on April 27 about a disturbance in a lounge on North Broadway.

Upon arrival they found Patrick McGuirl, 46, of East Providence suffering from a laceration he received as a result of a fight. He was taken to Rhode Island Hospital and released.

The man with the box cutter like weapon Peter Oliver, 40 of East Providence was arrested and is being charged with felony assault and disorderly conduct.

Oliver is scheduled to be arraigned April 27 in the District Court in Providence.

McGuirl is being charged with disorderly conduct and will receive a court date.

The fight started after one of the two men who were drinking accused the other of staring at him. Lt. Thomas Rush said “It was your typical bar fight.”
