2 people hospitalized after stabbings in Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A violent Sunday afternoon in Providence left a man and a woman in the hospital with stab wounds.
According to Major Lapatin with the Providence Police Department, officers responded to the area of Cranston and Ford Streets just before 3:45 p.m. for a report of a woman stabbed in the leg.

When officers arrived on the scene, they said they found a 31-year-old woman leaning against a fence with an apparent stab wound to her left leg. Responders said they had to use a tourniquet on the victim’s leg to prevent further bleeding.
The victim told police that while she was sitting in a car parked at the Dairy King on Cranston Street, another woman, who was not immediately identified, stabbed her in the leg. The motive for the stabbing was not immediately known.
Simultaneously, Providence police said their District 2 officers were dispatched to Rhode Island Hospital where a 40-year-old man was admitted for multiple stab wounds after driving himself to the emergency room.
It was not immediately known if the two stabbings were connected.
Both incidents remain under investigation by Providence police.
