2 Providence elementary schools starting late due to construction delays
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Some elementary school students in Providence will be starting school later than expected this year as construction has delayed two school from opening.
According to Providence Public Schools, Frank D. Spaziano and William D’Abate Elementary Schools will be starting school on September 11, three days after the original start-date.
Despite preliminary investigations that said the schools are in good shape, Dr. Javier Montanez, Superintendent of Providence Public Schools, said out of an abundance of caution, they delayed opening. An update on construction is expected to be released to families on September 6.
Montanez also added families can expect ongoing construction in the days ahead and asked for everyone to be patient with staff and leadership as they familiarize themselves with the new environment.
Students at Spaziano and D’Abate will also have one extra day added to the end of the school year.
