2 suspects arrested in connection with Cranston shoplifting, officer-involved shooting

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — Cranston Police Chief Michael Winquist said two suspects were arrested on June 18 in connection with a shoplifting incident that caused an officer to shoot at the suspects.
Winquist said the suspects were arrested in Massachusetts after their vehicle was found in Providence on June 17.
Police said a female officer was taken to the hospital after a shoplifting offense was reported by a store employee in the Garden City Shopping Center late afternoon.
The suspects hit the officer with their car, which caused the officer to fire at them.
The driver fled onto Route 10 North and was last seen near Niantic Avenue.
The officer was taken to Kent County Hospital to be treated for her injuries and was released shortly after.
Winquist added that further information on the arrest will be released Thursday, June 20.
