2 suspects face judge after Block Island fight
SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) — Two of the seven people involved in the Block Island fight Saturday were arraigned in court on Monday.
Brothers, Michael Lopes of Brockton, and Henry Lopes Jr. of Providence, were arraigned on multiple charges; including felony assault, resisting arrest, obstructing an officer, and disorderly conduct.
Narragansett Police arrived Saturday night to find 2o to 30 people allegedly fighting at the Block Island Ferry terminal.
Lt. Ryan Prest told the court that Michael allegedly had to be taken to the ground by police, but his lawyer claims he was just trying to protect his sister who was assaulted.
Lopes was ordered held as a bail violator, which is related to a recent DUI case while his brother Henry was held on $1,000 bail but was sent across the hall for a Superior Court violation.
The other individuals involved in the fight are expected to be arraigned within the next couple of days.
