20-year-old and juvenile arrested in New Bedford on firearms charges

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — New Bedford police detectives have arrested two individuals, including a juvenile male, on multiple firearms-related charges, according to a statement from the New Bedford Police Department.
Tavarus Lamar Veal, 20, of New Bedford, and the juvenile are charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of a large capacity feeding device and possession of ammunition without an FID card.
The two suspects were observed by detectives on Saturday at approximately 3:30 p.m. on South Second Street wearing heavy clothing and ski masks despite an outside temperature of 60 degrees.
Detectives said that the suspects quickened their pace after noticing the cruiser, ultimately hiding behind a trash storage on Acushnet Avenue.
The officers located the suspects and recovered a black Glock 19 pistol with a high-capacity magazine loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition from the trash storage.
After an additional search of the area, detectives recovered a black Ruger LCP loaded with six rounds of ammunition.
Both Veal and the juvenile were arrested and the juvenile was transported to the Brockton Department of Youth Services facility.
