21 additional charges filed against sex offender suspect in YMCA voyeurism case

EAST BRIDGEWATER, Mass. (WLNE) — 21 additional charges have been filed against a Brockton man who allegedly photographed a woman in the shower at the YMCA in East Bridgewater in March.
According to East Bridgewater Police Department Chief Michael Jenkins, Abidan Rivera, 43, faces the following new charges:
- Photographing, videotaping or electronically surveilling someone nude/partially nude, or sexual intimate parts (17 counts)
- Posing or exhibiting child in state of nudity or sexual conduct (two counts)
- Possession of child pornography (two counts)
The new charges stem from a forensic examination of Rivera’s cellphone by personnel from the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office High Tech Evidence Analysis Team (HEAT).
HEAT personnel recovered 17 more illicit images from Rivera’s phone during their analysis of the device, according to East Bridgewater PD.
The recovered images allegedly depict both women and children who were unaware they were being photographed.
These images appear to have been taken in the family locker room of the East Bridgewater YMCA, according to Chief Jenkins.
The original alleged incident occurred on March 2 when East Bridgewater police responded to reports of a suspicious man taking photos or video of women showering at the 635 Plymouth Street facility.
Rivera, a registered Level 2 sex offender, was identified as the suspect through surveillance and a witness statement, according to East Bridgewater police.
Rivera was arrested without incident on March 3 at his Middleborough place of employment.
He pleaded guilty to the original charges in May and is currently incarcerated at the Plymouth County Correctional Facility in Plymouth.
