Here’s something to keep in mind before heading out on Black Friday if you’re shopping for toys.
The latest list of dangerous toys is out, and some of them might surprise you.
For the past 30 years, the education fund MassPIRG has put out its ‘Trouble in Toyland’ report.
This year that report highlights 22 toys that they say pose a potential hazard for kids.
Some even have high levels of toxins.
They’re warning parents this year to be extra cautious.
The list includes popular toys like slinkies, and a Fun Bubbles jump rope, that may contain toxic chemicals.
Some hazards may be more obvious, like small objects that pose a risk of choking, but researchers say even those should be looked at more carefully.
"Some of the toys we found especially with choking hazards had labels that were for children 3 and up but they still pose a hazard even for children 3-6," said one MassPIRG representative.
Other risks noted in the report are noise and magnets. Some toys can hurt children’s hearing, while others have magnets so powerful that if swallowed can cause serious injury.
MassPIRG is warning parents to watch out for these hazards. They posted a complete list of this year’s dangerous toys here.
