Three arrests made in altercation between youth basketball coaches

NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The North Providence Police Department shared that three people were arrested over the weekend after a fight broke out at a youth basketball game.

A physical altercation occurred at an ages 5-7 youth basketball game at Birchwood Middle School on Saturday, March 9, after two opposing coaches started a verbal argument over a call.

The verbal argument began to escalate, which prompted a parent from the stands to intervene.

The following three individuals were arrested for disorderly conduct:

  • Coach Patrick Marchand, 29, of Providence
  • Coach Gregory Adams, 38, of North Providence
  • John Angell, 39, of North Providence

The three parties did not wish to press charges of assault. No injuries were reported.
