CRANSTON, R.I. – Three Cranston West students have been arrested Tuesday evening for having guns on school property.
According to police, a 15 year old student brought two guns into the school on Monday and exchanged one of them for a jacket.
The student who gave up his jacket then brought the gun he got in exchange to an athletic event.
Police say that a 14-year-old and a 16-year-old student then took the gun off school property and fired it in a wooded area, and then returned to the game.
All three students are being charged with possession of a firearm by a minor, in addition to other charges.
There will be an increased police presence at Cranston West Wednesday as a precaution, but police say there is no ongoing threat.
