SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) — The South Kingstown Police Department arrested three people accused of driving under the influence last week, including one who had a 4-year-old child in the car.

“We continue to see a disturbing number of adults who are making bad decisions and driving impaired on our roads at all hours of the day,” said Police Chief Matthew Moynihan.

“Our officers are out on patrol, but with more than 300 miles of road in South Kingstown, we can’t be everywhere, so we certainly appreciate the public’s help in identifying impaired drivers,” he said.

Police said 66-year-old Gary Wilson, of West Warwick, was taken into custody on Halloween after allegedly leaving the scene of a crash and hitting several other vehicles.

Wilson was hurt and was brought to a nearby hospital. He was charged with driving under the influence of liquor and or drugs — 2nd offense, duty to stop for an accident, and driving with a suspended license

Police said a booking photo of Wilson was not available.

The department made two additional arrests on Friday.

Kristin Mauro of South Kingstown was arrested following a call from a concerned witness who reported someone driving drunk with a child in the car.

Officers pulled her over around 5:15 p.m. and took her into custody for suspected DUI. Mauro, 60, was later charged with driving under the influence with a child passenger under the age of 13.

Just before 7 p.m., officers were called to a two-vehicle crash on Route 138.

Police said 66-year-old Margaret Cotter was arrested for suspected DUI — 2nd offense, and refusal to submit to a chemical test.

Mauro and Cotter will appear in Washington County District Court on Thursday.
