UPDATE: Fredi Lopez faces judge after killing 33-year-old man in Providence

The suspect accused of flying into a jealous rage. Breaking into his ex-girlfriends apartment, stabbing her current boyfriend, and then fleeing the scene.

32-year-old Fredi Lopez is facing a judge in Providence District Court Monday is accused of committing the capital city’s 6th homicide of the year.

The victim Andres Arguijo-Acosta was ambushed early Saturday morning in his girlfriend’s Alverson Street home.

"We believe the suspect was known to the girlfriend. He was in fact her ex boyfriend," says Major David Lapatin of the Providence Police Department.

Lopez broke into his ex girlfriend’s apartment and then flew into a jealous rage.

“He got into the apartment, a confrontation ensued and then he stabbed him.”

The murder weapon, one of convenience: A knife from the kitchen. Lopez fled  the scene.

He was arrested later that day at his Cranston home.

According to police, Lopez has one previous domestic violence arrest, but not in relation to this case.

Lopez, formally charged with first degree homicide, was held without bail until a hearing on August 15th.

This is the second domestic violence related murder over the weekend Providence and the third homicide in the capital city just this week.

Providence Police were investigating a fatal stabbing in the Hartford neighborhood Saturday.

Police say Andres Arguijo, 33, of Providence, was found with several stab wounds in an apartment at 149 Alverson Ave. Saturday morning. They responded to the home after reports of a domestic disturbance.

Arguijo was transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police arrested Fredi Lopez, 32, of Providence.
