40 dogs seized from ‘horrible situation’ in Pawtucket

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — About 40 dogs were seized Monday from “terrible conditions” at a Pawtucket home.

The Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said the scene on Senate Street was one the worst they had seen.

“[The dogs] are matted to the point that they are going to need some medical shaving and treatment,” said RISPCA President Wayne Kezirian. “The stench is awful. No way to describe this, other than horrendous.”

A spokesperson described it as a “hoarding situation” and said Pawtucket police and animal control responded around 3:30 p.m.

RISPCA officials said they were alerted by the Pawtucket Mayor’s Office following an anonymous phone call informing authorities of the situation.

ABC 6 News crews observed feces blanketing the floor of an open garage.

“This is the worst I have ever seen, not one of the worst,” Kezirian said. “There is literally six inches of dog feces in that garage we are standing in front of.”

The house was condemned after the dogs were removed and taken to Pawtucket Animal Shelter.
