5 displaced after house fire in Avon
AVON, Mass. (WLNE) — The Avon Fire Department said they knocked down a two-alarm fire with assistance from seven other departments.
According to the department, a call reporting a fire at a three-family home on Page Street came in at 8:30 p.m. When first responders arrived to the scene, they said they saw smoke coming from the third floor and met heavy flames on the second floor.
Officials said all five residents were able to escape, but high heat and humidity kept fire crews rotating to prevent exhaustion.
Other fire departments involved in battling the flames were Stoughton, Holbrook, Randolph, Brockton, Canton, Abington and West Bridgewater.
Avon Fire Chief Robert Spurr said the residents were sleeping when the fire broke out and were woken up by smoke detectors.
The fire remains under investigation by the Avon Fire Department and the State Fire Marshal’s office.
